This project was conducted in conjunction with the International Centre for Underwater Archaeology in Zadar (ICUA), the Croatian Ministry of Culture, and RPM Nautical Foundation (RPMNF); under the research paradigm of The Illyrian Coastal Exploration Program (ICEP). The project includes a systematic survey of the Croatian coast from the c. 30 to 200 m contour. In 2014 two ancient shipwrecks were found as well as numerous later sites.
This survey produced detailed bathymetric maps, locations of all submerged cultural material, and documentation of significant site finds for the Ministry of Culture and ICUA. This database allows further scholarly research, produce a GIS reference chart of the coast, provide information to assist the Republic of Croatia in protecting its submerged cultural resources, and foster educational opportunities for students. As RPMNF conducts multi-disciplinary projects (biology and geology), research and educational opportunities are not limited to archaeology.
