Budvanski Zaliv 2 Wreck

Date: 2nd century BCE

Era: Roman Republic

Location: Montenegro Coast

Cargo: Lamboglia 2 amphoras

A slightly disturbed mound of amphoras forms the primary portion of this largely intact wreck site (MN11-AF). All of the amphoras observed on the surface and protruding from the seafloor are of the type Lamboglia 2. A single example was raised for identification and recording: MN11AF-0001. This amphora revealed an early stage in the developmental history of the Lamboglia 2 type and provides a provisional date of the second half of the 2nd century BCE. Many of the amphoras exhibit a large amount of marine growth.
